I have been a member of the Security Forces family for about 2 years now and I have a few things to clear up about the some "True " some "False" rumors. One of the first rumors I must lay down right now is that Security Forces Members have the worst jobs in the Air Force, what make you say that I am stationed at one of the most undermanned bases in the Air Force and the longest we've been in a 12 hours shifts which ends up turning into 13 1/2 to 14 hour shifts was about 6 months now that averages out to be about 138 hours a month with the normal Panama schedule work every other 2 days and every other weekend not so bad once you get used to it. The next thing that I would like to touch on is Deployments If you talk to anyone that has been active within the career field at a normal operating base Non- PRP have most likely deployed with in a 4-6 year enlistment you will also learn that if you speak about a deployment with a SF you will learn most deployment tasking is bad and a most look forward to "going down range". The first and biggest reason is the Money yes the money tax free money might I add along with hazard pay depending on where you are, last time I deployed I came back banking almost $14,000.00 not including the money I spent on bills and what not if you ask me that's pretty good for a 19 year old if you ask me. Security Forces deploy to various locations all around the world most popular amongst SF deployment locations include Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Nations, and more. Next thing I always hear about is the what we do on the job is stand outside at the gate checking ID's of a personnel that come through the gate half true there's a lot more opportunities in this career field that most people don't even realize such as patrolling the base, Amory duty, Control Desk duty, Visitor Center Personnel, and etc..... (most positions require you to a SRA and above or 28 months of total active duty service). Being a military police in the Air Force is completely what you make of it there's good and bad about it just as you will find with any other job there is also a lot of great opportunities. If you plan to become a SF member be sure to keep in mind that its completely what you make it and try not to let anyone in your career field influence the decisions you make. Below I will also I will list some A&D and also a link where you can find more information.
